Hepatica nobilis makes a lovely garden plant for shaded location with rich organic soils. Once established in a good location they will live for many years. They form colorful little clumps of flowers that will bloom with some of the first spring flowers such as the crocus.
Hepatica nobilis is a small evergreen herb found growing in rich woodlands from Minnesota to Maine to Northern Florida west to Alabama. The flowers are most commonly blue or lavender, although white forms may be common locally, especially in southern areas, and there may be various shades of pink.
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS:
This plant thrives in partial shade to full shade, making it a perfect addition to woodland gardens or shady borders.
SIZE:
Typically grows to be about 2-4 inches in height making it a great ephemeral option for shaded areas.
BLOOM TIME/COLOR:
It produces delicate foam-like clusters of small, white or light pink flowers in the spring, adding a lovely pop of color to any garden.
COMPANION PLANTS:
This plant pairs well with other shade-loving plants such as Phlox, and Aquilegia (esp 'Little Lanterns'), and creating a lush and diverse garden.
